Rafael Nadal is progressing in his attempt to return from a right wrist injury, with the Spaniard still entered to play the U.S. Open.

"Following a scan and clinical evaluation, his progress is on track," said a statement from the Spanish tennis federation (RFET).

Nadal also released a video of himself practicing on Wednesday, saying he had a "good training session."

The world No. 2 injured himself while practicing in preparation for this week's Masters tournament in Toronto. He has been told to keep the wrist immobilized for two weeks and is wearing a splint while training.

His uncle and coach, Toni, told the website Punto del Break that he was "optimistic" that Nadal would be able to defend his U.S. Open title. A decision is expected the week before the Flushing Meadows Grand Slam begins.
