"Legendary" was the word Serena Williams used to describe her racquet smash upon going down 5-2 in the first set of her Singapore semifinal match against Caroline Wozniacki.

The season's No. 1 player pulled another patented Houdini trick out of her arsenal to escape defeat, ultimately winning 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6) at the WTA Finals after falling behind 4-1 in the deciding tiebreak.

"I don't know how many times I hit it, but boy, that racquet will never do me wrong again," Serena said. (In a literally twisted way, her sponsor, Wilson, has to be pleased.) Here are more highlights from post-match comments she and Wozniacki each made to the press.

"I kind of lost my cool a little bit," Serena offered, adding, "Another one bit—it bit the dust, so to say. ... I'm not proud of it." Will the Queen song she referenced be her next karaoke jam? One can hope. What's amusing about her comments is how she skips a beat after saying "not proud" and then starts chuckling, as well as her penchant for turning her Gatorade bottle around so the "G" logo faces the camera.

If it were true that Serena gives "200 percent" when stepping out on the court, it would be terrifying to her competition. For their benefit, no human can give more than 100 percent; it's just that some give 70 to 80 in some matches. "I'm not the kind of girl that goes out there and just plays through the motions and just doesn't care whether I win or lose," Serena said. "I give everything."

Wozniacki would say she did the same in the match, a far cry from her 6-3, 6-3 loss to Serena in the U.S. Open final in September. The score line from that match made the affair look closer than it really was. "I felt like I played so well, but you know, when you play Serena, when you play your best tennis sometimes, that's not enough," Wozniacki said after this match.

Here's to greatness, and here's to 2015. Says here these two will encounter each other a few times. And the one nursing a 1-10 record against the greatest women's tennis player ever might just get in her licks.
