After losing the second set of the Miami Open final to Andy Murray on Sunday, Novak Djokovic went off—in the direction of his player's box, and seemingly in the face of a ballkid who was handing him a towel. He'd just been broken at love, and he was going to let just about anyone who would hear him know that he was not pleased about it:

Even so, the world No. 1 would go on to bagel Murray in the deciding set, taking a 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-0 victory to complete his third round of back-to-back Indian Wells and Miami titles.

Djokovic was issued a code violation by the chair umpire for his tirade, to which the champ-in-waiting said, "Do you understand what I said?", as he had spoken in Serbian toward the seats of coach Boris Becker and wife Jelena Ristic. It didn't matter to the chair umpire, and probably shouldn't have, in light of the clearly startled ballkid.

Match observers pounced on the exchanges (including us), and Ristic herself took to Twitter to address one such post:

Djokovic himself felt bad about the incident, and later posted a video apology, the new father asking for forgiveness from the ballkid and his parents.

“I saw the replay, and unfortunately the ball boy was in the middle of it and I really feel sorry and regret that he was there. There was absolutely no intention whatsoever to hurt him or scare him in any kind of way, and I sincerely hope that he forgives me.

I really apologize, and also as a parent I do care about children a lot right now. I look at it in a much different way, so I want to apologize to his parents as well for this situation and as a father I wouldn't wish something like this happens to my son.”
