WATCH: Tennis Channel Live sets expectations for Serena ahead of the US Open.

The 2022 US Open draw has been revealed, and Serena Williams will face Danka Kovinic in the first round in what will all but certainly be her final Grand Slam main draw. Should she advance, she could play world No. 2 Anett Kontaveit in the second round.

She is drawn into the bottom quarter with Kontaveit and No. 5 seed Ons Jabeur; her road to the semifinals is projected to be as follows:

  • First Round: Kovinic
  • Second Round: [2] Kontaveit
  • Third Round: [27] Martina Trevisan
  • Fourth Round: [14] Leylah Fernandez or [23] Barbora Krejcikova
  • Quarterfinals: [5] Ons Jabeur or [10] Daria Kasatkina
  • Semifinals: [3] Maria Sakkari or [7] Simona Halep
  • Finals: [1] Iga Swiatek or [4] Paula Badosa or [6] Aryna Sabalenka

Williams is a 23-time Grand Slam champion, six of which have come at the US Open—most recently in 2014, when she began what would be her second Non-Calendar Year “Serena” Slam. The former world No. 1 has missed much of the last year due to a knee injury incurred at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, leaving her unseeded ahead of this year’s US Open.

She returned to action at Wimbledon in June, where she fell in the first round to Harmony Tan, and won her first match in over a year at the National Bank Open in Toronto before revealing her intention to “evolve” away from tennis in a Vogue Magazine editorial.

The order of play is yet to be released, though it is expected that Serena will play her first round on Arthur Ashe Stadium, likely at night.
