MARBELLA, Spain (AP) Spanish wild card Estrella Cabeza rolled over third-seeded Aravane Rezai of France 6-3, 6-0 in the first round of the Andalucia Tennis Experience on Tuesday.
Cabeza was comfortable on the clay from the outset and used five break points to beat a French opponent ranked more than 200 places ahead of her.
Second-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova rallied for a hard-fought 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 win over German qualifier Mona Barthel, while fellow Russian and fifth-seeded Tsvetana Pironkova was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Spanish qualifier Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor.
Russian wild card Dinara Safina also rallied to beat Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Other first-round winners included Kristina Barrois, Agnes Szavay, Irina-Camelia Begu and Spanish pair Lourdes Dominguez and Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino.
