In his second match in Marrakech, wild card Jo-Wilfried Tsonga punched a ticket to the quarterfinals after his victory over Kyle Edmund, 7-6 (6), 6-3.

Tsonga is aiming to win his second title of the season after claiming Montpellier in February. The Frenchman is on his way to making his presence felt on the ATP Tour again after spending most of his 2018 season sidelined with knee injury. 33-year-old Tsonga, who reached his career-high No. 5 ranking in 2012, is current ranking is No. 116.

The former world No. 5 will next face Lorenzo Sonego for a spot in the semifinals. Sonego took out Robin Haase took out in straights, 7-6 (5), 6-3. Tsonga and Sonego will be meeting for the first time. The tournament's No. 1 seed is 21-year-old Alexander Zverev, who took a wild card into the tournament.
