So, the Wimbledon draw is out. The Implications are numerous and variegated.
Federer could go positive in the win column against Dominik "Fed Killer" Hrbaty
Djoko gets to put his considerable talent where his equally considerable mouth is (ok, cheap shot, but the guy does talk a lot).
WWGSN? (What will Gimel say next?)
And, for a frazzling two weeks, we can all angst about the fortunes of The Big Three, or Reeshie , or Dementieva or Thomaz Belluci.
The good news is, they've got a pinball machine with Kolya's name on it (for all those rainy days).
But, here is something that can make it all easier: The TAT Wimbledon '08 Suicide Pool .
You know the drill. You look at the schedule for each day and pick a player that you predict will win his match. If he wins his match you get to do the same thing again, the next day. If he loses you make your way over to the Losers' Lounge where a virtually swanky barmaid offers you virtual cocktails as fast as you can knock 'em back, virtually. The idea being to get as far as you can into the draw without, as it were, committing suicide with an ill-advised pick(e.g.: Schwank in the first round, Reeshie in the second week, Vera or Marat in any round etc etc). The catch is that you can only pick a specific player once for the entire tournament. So, for instance, you wouldn't pick Federer on day 1, unless you put much stock in that particular H2H. A more helpful description of SP can be found here.
Given that the SP is conducted by TAT, there are a few additional things you need to keep in mind if you want to represent the tribe.
To play the Suicide Pool, you need to be registered as a TAT member. If you have not yet registered, registration is free and quick! Just go to TAT.
How to participate in the TW division of the contest:
The rules are as follows:
1) To enter, you must include the letters "TW" in your first pick posts. If you are participating in both pools (men and women), you must include "TW" in both the Men's and Women's Day 1 picks posts.
2) If your screen-name on TAT is different from the name you use at TennisWorld, you must include your TennisWorld name.
So, your first -day pick will look like this (Please make sure your pick and your name are on separate lines):
Kristof Vliegen
TW, mmmm8
(it will help the site administrators to leave some white space between your pick for the day and ID as Tribe member)
3) Include "TW" (and, if applicable, your TW name) only in your Day 1 picks. Please do not add the "TW" indicator for the remaining days.
4) If you have questions about the Suicide Pool, you can ask them at TAT here .
5) If you have questions about the TW part of the contest, you can send a message to mmmm8 through TAT's Private Message system.
Remember, the threads for the first day picks will not be published until the OOP is out for the first day. So, just keep a look out for them.
Lastly, I would like to acknowledge the fine showing of the TW members at the RG '08 Suicide Pool. I apologize for sitting on it this long.
Temes went the furthest in the Men's draw before finally exiting on Llodra in R16. He was one of 14 out of the 266 contestants who made it that far. Well done.
Bismarck, lbk77, Mariej, NikkiPikki, Nguyen, Paul Ryan and yellofuzzy all made it to day 7 before succumbing to Pennetta and Srebotnik. Congratulations to them as well.
