Bernard Tomic's trial coaching arrangement with Xavier Malisse got off to a good start, as the 21-year-old Australian reached the semifinals at Stockholm in his first week working with the Belgian.
The two have a three-week agreement that could lead to Malisse becoming Tomic's coach, though John Tomic, Bernard's father, would also stay on in that capacity. Banned for a year for assaulting one of Tomic's hitting partners, John resumed coaching his son when allowed to return to tour.
“I can say I will still be Bernard's coach with Xavier and we will work together,” Tomic told the *Melbourne Age*. “It will be a pleasure to work with such nice person like him. Will he coach Bernard with me, when I'm not there because I have to give part-time with daughter…I didn't decide nothing yet. We are just here in Stockholm, Malisse is with us, just on trial, we're just trying, because I can't find a good coach in Australia.”
Tomic, who has had an uneven season since he underwent double hip surgery, defeated Kevin Anderson and Fernando Verdasco before losing to Grigor Dimitrov in Stockholm.
