Garbiñe Muguruza

There's a baby on the way for Garbi! Former world No. 1 Garbiñe Muguruza has announced on social media that she and husband Arthur Borges are expecting their first child in the not-so-distant future.

Muguruza and Borges, who met in New York City during the 2021 US Open, wed almost a full year ago in October. And Polaroid photos posted to Muguruza's official accounts on Sunday said they'll soon be welcoming a new addition.

Muguruza shared three poolside snaps to her socials with the caption "Familia"—Spanish for family. Wearing an olive one-piece swimsuit and white sunglasses, Muguruza can be seen sporting a pronounced baby bump as she and Borges soak up the sun and pose under palm trees. Their adorable pug also makes a cameo appearance.

When she retired from tennis last April, the two-time Grand Slam champion said she was ready for the "next chapter" of her life. Muguruza's news was therefore met with joy from her tennis family, from world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and ex-Top 10 player Caroline Garcia, to her former coach Conchita Martinez, Billie Jean King Cup teammate Carla Suárez Navarro, and one-time rival Dominika Cibulkova, all making comments.

"Congratulations," Sabalenka wrote with a heart-eyes emoji, "so happy for you."

Mother-of-two and former world No. 4 Cibulkova added she "can't wait [for you] to experience those sleepless nights my love!"
