Yastremska to work with Bajin in 2020; Kerber appoints Kindlmann

World No. 22 Dayana Yastremska, one of the breakout stars of the 2019 WTA season, will look to build on her momentum with a new face in her corner.

The 19-year-old Ukrainian, who captured two titles and reached the fourth round at Wimbledon, announced on Facebook that she will be coached by Sascha Bajin in 2020. During the Asian swing, Yastremska parted ways with Olivier Jeunehomme.

“I am confident that he can help me in achieving my ambitions. Super excited for the beginning of our preseason preparation and I am confident that everything works out,” Yastremska wrote.

Bajin previously guided Naomi Osaka to back-to-back Grand Slam titles at the 2018 US Open and 2019 Australian Open, before the two split shortly after Osaka’s Melbourne triumph. He later worked with Kristina Mladenovic, but ended their partnership in October.

Three-time major champion Angelique Kerber has also joined forces with a new coach. The German revealed on social media that Dieter Kindlmann has joined her team. Kindlmann has coached a range of players, most recently Alja Tomljanovic and Elise Mertens. In 2017, he helped Madison Keys reach her first major final at the US Open.

“Work starts here, and I‘m thankful for the people in my team that share the same vision moving forward,” Kerber stated.

Without a coach since July, the former No. 1 has fallen to No. 20 in the rankings after going just 4-4 at the Grand Slam events. The left-hander did not win a title either, finishing runner-up in her two final appearances at Indian Wells and Eastbourne.
