BAKU, Azerbaijan (AP) Vera Zvonareva won her second title of the year and 12th of her career Sunday, beating Ksenia Pervak 6-1, 6-4 in an all-Russian final at the Baku Cup.
The seventh-seeded Pervak was playing her first career WTA tour final, and despite the defeat is expected to break into the top 50 when the new rankings are published Monday.
Zvonareva immediately took control with a break in the opening game. Pervak then received medical attention for a right toe injury after conceding another break. She got on the scoreboard at 4-1, but two straight double-faults handed Zvonareva a third break and the set.
The second set was more competitive. A break for a 3-1 lead put the top-seeded Zvonareva in control, but Pervak recovered the break in the seventh, dropped her own, then broke back again.
