2021 WTA Player Awards: Ashleigh Barty, Carla Suarez Navarro among selected recipients

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Ashleigh Barty: The Australian finished as the year-end world No. 1 for the third successive year after winning a tour-leading five titles. Among them, Wimbledon's Venus Rosewater Dish. Barty is now a two-time recipient of this distinction, following her 2019 recognition.

DOUBLES TEAM OF THE YEAR

Barbora Krejcikova & Katerina Siniakova: The Czech duo claimed their third major team trophy at Roland Garros, triumphed at the WTA Finals and brought home a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Siniakova and Krejcikova also won this award in 2018.

MOST IMPROVED

Barbora Krejcikova: The 25-year-old transitioned her consistent doubles success to the singles court in 2021, rising as high as No. 3. Most notably, she won her first WTA singles trophy in Strasbourg in her lead-up to Roland Garros, where she swept the singles and doubles titles.

NEWCOMER

Emma Raducanu: Though the teen began 2021 ranked No. 343, she ended it inside the Top 20. Following a fourth-round debut at Wimbledon, the Brit became the first qualifier in history to capture a major singles title after winning all 20 sets in a spellbinding US Open run.

COMEBACK PLAYER

Carla Suarez Navarro: The Spaniard inspired with one final victory lap after winning her battle with Hodgkin lymphoma earlier this spring. She competed at Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open and represented her country on the Olympic and Billie Jean King Cup stages.
