Roger Federer may not usually be an early riser, but the 11 a.m. start certainly didn’t bother him as he rolled to a 6-3, 6-0, 6-2 win over French wild card Maxime Teixiera.

After the players exchanged breaks early in the first set, Federer took complete control. The second and third sets looked more like an exhibition, with the great Swiss in full flow—hitting plenty of drop shots and showing his usual flourish on a backhand smash. His victory extended his Roland Garros record to 45-11, and he showed no signs of discomfort in the cozy confines of the 10,056 seat Suzanne Lenglen stadium, instead of his customary spot on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Teixiera, 22 and ranked No. 181, has climbed 142 spots in the rankings in 2011. But he had nothing to threaten the 16-time Grand Slam champion on a perfectly cloudless Wednesday in Paris. At least he seemed to be enjoying himself, raising his arms to celebrate the end of a 13-game losing run when he made it 4-1 in the final set.

Teixiera managed to save one match point at 5-1 with a big forehand winner, and won the game when Federer missed a backhand long. That simply delayed the inevitable, as Federer won the match in the following game, wrapping things up in a tidy one hour and 24 minutes. The two shared a friendly handshake at the net, smiling and exchanging pleasantries.

In Friday’s third round, Federer will meet Janko Tipsarevic, who he's defeated all three times they've played. Federer won two of those matches comfortably in Switzerland, but was extended to 10-8 in the fifth set of their other encounter, in the third round of the 2008 Australian Open, when Federer was under the effects of his bout with mononucleosis.
