Rafael Nadal said he doesn't "see a problem" in Andy Murray having Amelie Mauresmo as his coach, joining Roger Federer's positive appraisal of the selection.

"Andy is already 27 years old," said Nadal, stating that players need to work with the teams that are right for them.

"Andy is a great guy and if he chose Amelie for now, it's because he thinks she's the person he really needs and can help him more to find the goals and objectives he wants to achieve," he said.

"It's true that it's something new to contract a woman for the men's [game] but in the end Amelie has great experience in the world of tennis, she's a great champion so I don't see a problem, I think he'll be fine."

Murray announced Mauresmo as his new coach a few days ago, attracting attention as one of the few top male players to work with a female coach.

Nadal added that Murray's play had already been improving during the clay-court season, after a slow start to the year following back surgery. Murray reached the quarterfinals of Rome, taking Nadal to three sets, and also reached the semifinals of the French Open, equaling his best result there.

"That will give him confidence now for probably the most important part of the year for him which is the grass court season," said Nadal.
