Christina McHale, who lost to Mirjana Lucic-Baroni, 6-3, 6-0, in the first round of Brisbane International, is experiencing shoulder discomfort.

The 22-year-old reached a career-high No. 24 ranking in 2012, but experienced a number of injuries and has struggled over the past year. She is currently ranked No. 52.

"It was a tough match for me yesterday," McHale said. "Mirjana played really well and all credit to her. I've had a nagging shoulder pain recently, and wasn't able to practice very much these days so unfortunately I just wasn't match ready. I'll get back on court."

She may play Hobart next week.
