NUREMBERG, Germany (AP) Third-seeded Annika Beck of Germany overcame a rain delay and breezed past Teliana Pereira of Brazil 6-0, 6-4 in the first round of the clay-court tournament in Nuremberg on Monday.

Beck ended a run of three straight first-round defeats.

Seventh-seeded local Anna-Lena Friedsam also advanced, beating Johanna Larsson of Sweden 6-3, 6-4. Eighth-seeded Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan was taken to three sets before overcoming qualifier Olga Fridman of Ukraine 6-7 (0), 6-2, 7-5.

The event is a warmup for the French Open, which starts on Sunday.

Other winners included Varvara Lepchenko and Christina McHale of the U.S., Polona Hercog of Slovenia, qualifier Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands, and Mariana Duque-Marino of Colombia.
