Fabio Fognini, Flavia Pennetta welcome birth of son

Retired WTA player Flavia Pennetta and ATP player Fabio Fognini have had their first child.

Pennetta gave birth to a son this week, with Fognini arriving back home following his loss to Alexander Zverev in Rome. He defeated Andy Murray in the second round of his home event before falling to the German.

Pennetta, a former Grand Slam champion, retired in 2015. The couple got married a year ago. They join a recent wave of players having children, which includes Victoria Azarenka, Taylor Fritz, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Jurgen Melzer.

Fognini is No. 29 in the rankings.
