Ekaterina Makarova wins first title in three years at Citi Open

Ekaterina Makarova put forth magic as she defeated Julia Georges, 3-6, 7-6 (2), 6-0, to win the Citi Open in Washington. The seventh seed came from a set behind for the third successive time to claim her first WTA title in more than three years.

Makarova fought off seven aces and was able to push passed seven double-faults. She dominated the second set tiebreak and then overwhelmed Goerges in the third set to claim the title. She fended off Simona Halep to reach the final, who had to retire due to heat exhaustion.
