Marion Bartoli will not be returning to tour at Miami, with the Frenchwoman not among the wild cards announced for the event.

The tournament said on social media that she had "decided she wanted more time to train" before returning to the circuit from a five-year retirement. The former Grand Slam champion had played the Tie Break Tens event in New York two weeks ago and indicated she still had some questions about her competitive level.

According to French press, Bartoli withdrew with a hip and foot problem, and will also not be taking the wild card she had been given at the WTA event at Monterrey the following week. She was described as being reluctant to return on clay, but could potentially return at Birmingham, or another grass-court event.

The Miami tournament, which is owned by IMG, typically gives its wild cards to players it represents. It has announced its men's and women's wild card recipients for next week.

Florida local Sachia Vickery, who reached the third round at Indian Wells, criticized organizers for not giving her a wild card.

Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka are among the women's wild cards.
