Marin Cilic couldn’t have asked for a much better start to his Roland Garros campaign on Sunday. The 11th seed dispatched Thomas Fabbiano 6-3, 7-5, 6-1, dominating with 32 winners to just eight from the Italian. Cilic will next meet Grigor Dimitrov in the second round.
Cilic, entering Paris with just an 8-7 mark on the year, has advanced to the quarterfinals in each of his past two French Open trips. After defeating Fabbiano, the former US Open champion visited the Tennis Channel desk to talk about his performance, the unusual Grand Slam Sunday start and the improvements he's made over time on clay.
“The way I finished the match was definitely pleasing,” the Croatian said.
