Dating duo Monfils and Svitolina are helping each other on court

Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina publicly revealed they were dating at the beginning of the season, and both have been having benefitting from great results in 2019.

Their off-court relationship is paying off on the court, according to Monfils, who says they've occasionally been coaching each other.

“I help her, she helps me. We have the knowledge to play tennis for ages, so we just give some tips, advice,” Monfils said in Zhuhai. “And pretty much some times we have some tennis talk, it's easier for both of us to understand each other because we know exactly what we feel on the court."

The 33-year-old Frenchman, who managed to crack the Top 6 in 2016, is back up to No. 12, with appearances in the quarterfinal of the US Open, the semifinals of Montreal and a title in Rotterdam.

Svitolina, is ranked at a career-high No. 3 and the 24-year-old reached the semifinals of Wimbledon, the US Open, and Indian Wells.

This week, they are both playing Beijing, and when they are at the same event, will sit in each other's player box for every match. Svitolina won her first match against Anastasija Sevastova, while Monfils opens against John Isner on Tuesday.

"I mean, it's always easier to advise than to do it," Monfils said. "So sometimes it's nice to have someone that would 100 percent understand what you actually are doing on the court and what you are feeling, so I think that's why both we are helping each other.”
