Garbine Muguruza will hope to advance past the first round of a tournament for the first time since Roland Garros. But it won’t be easy for the two-time major champion, as she will face off against one of the game’s trickiest competitors in Hsieh Su-wei.

Muguruza and Hsieh have met once before, at the 2018 Australian Open, where the Taiwanese defeated Muguruza, 7-6 (1), 6-4. It was certainly an upset at the time, but now, a Hsieh win would surprise no one.

The former world No. 1, for reasons unknown, has not been able to find her championship-level form. In addition to her four-match losing streak, Muguruza has lost in the first round of her past two Grand Slam events. She split with Sam Sumyk following her Wimbledon exit and is continuing to work with her country's Fed Cup captain, Anabel Medina Garrigues, during the Asian swing.

Because of her slight frame and her susceptible second serve, players can overpower Hsieh. Muguruza can certainly provide the necessary pace, but she may not have the confidence to overcome such a skilled and crafty player. The oddsmakers believe Muguruza should win the match, as she is a slight favorite. But look for the world No. 33 to frustrate the struggling Spaniard with her shot-making and variety, and walk away with her 30th singles victory of the season.
