The ATP is on the verge of announcing a new CEO following its recent appointment of a chairman, according to the Telegraph.

The ATP board plans to select Massimo Calvelli, an executive currently with Nike, said the newspaper.

The Italian would fill the position being vacated by Chris Kermode, who had not received enough votes to keep his role during a Board meeting eight months ago.

The Telegraph said Calvelli is a friend of Andrea Gaudenzi, the Italian former ATP player who was appointed ATP Chairman a few weeks ago.

The ATP has typically had just one person holding the positions of both CEO and Chairman, but decided to split the functions following difficulties deciding conflicts between tournaments and players. Players on the ATP Player Council, which chooses player board members, have spoken of CEO reluctance to vote in favor of either side.

Also new to the ATP Board is Mark Knowles, who was appointed a player representative member a few weeks ago.

No confirmation of an appointment has been issued by the ATP, which has not said when its CEO will be announced.
