Barty withdraws from Dubai with foot injury; Svitolina takes wild card

The world No. 1 is coming off a semifinal run at the Australian Open, losing to eventual champion Sofia Kenin.

Ashleigh Barty is withdrawing from Dubai, but two-time champion Elina Svitolina has taken a wild card into the event.

Barty, who withdrew with a right foot injury, is coming off reaching the semifinals of her home Grand Slam at the Australian Open, and had won the WTA event at Adelaide the week before that.

Svitolina had a third-round exit at the Australian Open to eventual finalist Garbine Muguruza.

Simona Halep is the top seed in Dubai following Barty's withdrawal, while Belinda Bencic is the defending champion.
