"I am happy to be lined up with the greats. The names among the winners... to be there now is a great honor for me," he said.

The 27-year-old, who won the US Open, next plays the ATP Finals. Thiem is coming off a quarterfinal exit in Vienna, where he had problems with a blister on his right foot during his defeat to eventual winner Andrey Rublev.

Thiem later withdrew from the Paris Masters, but he has since been back on court training.

"It took me two, three days to recover, then I started my preparation for the Finals in London," said Thiem in an entry on his official website.

Now in London, Thiem will look to build on his 2019 performance at The O2 Arena. Last year, Thiem outclassed Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in the group stage, before losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas in a final set tie-break to narrowly miss out on capturing the crown. The year-end event begins on Sunday.
