After a sluggish 3-3 start to the season, David Goffin is slowly but surely finding his form in Montpellier. The Belgian would love nothing more than to avenge his indoor hard-court loss to Egor Gerasimov in Marseille, which occurred around this time last year on a similar surface.
It seems Gerasimov has a short memory. Despite his stunning 6-0, 6-1, 6-0 loss to Aslan Karatsev at the Australian Open, the Belarusian has been sensational this week, earning wins over Andy Murray, Aljaz Bedene and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. He’s racked up 36 aces in his three matches, backing up his excellent serving with extreme firepower from the baseline.
But he should have his hands full on Saturday against Goffin, who absorbs and redirects pace better than almost anyone in the game. At -174, Goffin is a solid bet to advance to his 14th career ATP final.
Meanwhile in Singapore, it’s anyone’s guess who will emerge victorious, but at +154, Radu Albot appears to be a solid value play against the enigmatic Alexander Bublik. When focused and engaged, Bublik can beat anyone, but his opponent is practically guaranteed to give maximum effort and focus.
Albot's nickname on tour is “The Machine” because he is one of the hardest workers in the game, spending countless hours on the practice court and in the gym. The slower than normal conditions in Singapore could help Albot extend rallies, where he owns an advantage against Bublik from the baseline.
Goffin advancing is our best bet of the day, but Albot is certainly worth a look, especially after handling No. 1 seed Adrian Mannarino in straight sets.
