The young Serb finished runner-up in singles but went one better in doubles with Kristina Mladenovic, while Blumberg partnered fellow American Steve Johnson to end the grass swing on top.
"It's an incredible feeling winning my first title," said Cressy, who injured his left knee and had to take an injury timeout before the final point of the third set.
The Minnesota Vikings star used the sport as a training vehicle during the NFL off-season, and displayed his skills this week in Newport, R.I.
"It's nothing that I ever thought about as a player, or even as a kid growing up... I just one day wanted to play on a Grand Slam court," the Australian reflects from Newport, R.I.
"It's just really weird when she's not in the house. It feels a lot quieter, even though she wasn't a dog that barked a lot," the former world No. 1 shares from the Infosys Hall of Fame Open.
The 26-year-old, who cracked the Top 50 at the end of June, meets John Isner in Newport Thursday for a chance to move within two wins of claiming a maiden ATP title.
