World No. 7 Dominic Thiem was one of the first-round matches that took to the court on Sunday as he faced off against the mercurial Bernard Tomic. While the Australian was all over the place, Thiem took care of business, 6-4, 6-0, 6-2.

Thiem reached the semifinals in Paris last year for his first major breakthrough. Tomic, meanwhile, has been struggling with consistency, and fell apart in just 80 minutes. Thiem would end up hitting almost as many winners (32) as Tomic hit unforced errors (33).

The 23-year-old Austrian has turned himself into a Roland Garros threat with his deadly one-handed backhand and comfort on clay. Thiem has won eight career ATP titles and six of those have come on clay. He's also particularly cozy in Paris.

"I feel good. I always come here with a good feeling," Thiem said ahead of the tournament. "I played finals as a junior six years ago. Then last year the semis."
