Piggybacking on the popularity of their tuxedo-inspired Pro Staff models, Wilson has expanded the look and unveiled a new “Black Edition” tennis collection. Dubbed on social media as #SeriesNoir, it includes frames, footwear, bags and apparel featuring all-black, minimalist designs.
At the center of the collection are three frames, each from one of the brand’s racquet franchises: Ultra 100 CV Black, Blade 98 CV Black (16x19) and Burn 100 CV Black. All three retail for $219 and feature Countervail technology, a special carbon fiber designed to disperse vibration into the frame instead of the player’s body, without sacrificing performance or feel. The racquets are linked to their respective franchises by neon blue (Ultra), neon green (Blade) and orange (Burn) Wilson logos on the outside throat of each frame.
To house the frames there’s the Black Edition Tour V 15 Pack Racquet Bag ($119). It has the capacity to hold up to 15 frames with three main compartments for gear and apparel, four large exterior pockets for storing personal items and a Thermoguard 2.0 compartment to protect gear against extreme heat and humidity. There’s also a smaller, two-racquet backpack ($79) in the line.
Footwear is represented by the 2018 all-black Amplifeel ($159). The mid-cut shoe with a Velcro strap for ankle security is available in unisex sizes 4-13, 14. On the apparel front for men, there’s black-on-black crew shirts with subtle color accents and shorts that feature Amplicool. For women, tanks and skirts feature nanoWIK technology, which moves moisture away from the skin to provide players with greater comfort. The clothes range from $55-$60 per item.
