Gear Review

The 655 is suited for slightly built players at the 2.5 to 3.0 level who don’t tax their knees and feet by trying to retrieve out-of-reach shots. The light weight of the shoe makes it a good choice if you meet the above criteria and don’t have a history of foot problems like plantar fasciitis (a pain that could run the length of the bottom of the foot) or tibialis dysfunction (a weakening of the muscle in the arch). New Balance backs the 655 with a “premature wear” guarantee that covers the entire shoe, though it’s unlikely that an intermediate player will burn through the 655 quickly. If the shoe does get worn out after a short time, it probably means that the player works harder than he thinks on court and should opt for a more substantial pair of kicks.
