Gear Review

The Pitch
The Pacific X Fast Pro is constructed with BasaltX fibers, natural material mined from volcanic rock. The German-based company says its basalt, manufactured in conjunction with the European company ASA.TEC, dampens vibrations on impact, enhancing comfort and feel. In addition, the Pro also features the Speed-Zone, weights placed at the hoop’s three and nine o’clock locations to increase stability, as well as F.A.S.T., a rounded throat for added rigidity and power.

How It Tested
The X Fast Pro was one of the most powerful racquets tested this year. Strong playtesters raved about how the Pro enabled crackling groundstrokes and forceful serves. As a 4.0 player reported, “When you hit it right, this is a rocket launcher.” Playtesters also commended the Pro’s rock-solid response, saying it held up well against hard-hit balls. As for the racquet’s drawbacks, they weren’t unexpected: Owing to its stiffer, thicker beam, volleys were stable but middling, as were touch and angle plays. And while playtesters reveled in all the added power, there was a learning curve adjusting to its extra length. All in all, though, the X Fast Pro more than lived up to its billing as a racquet for hard-nosed power baseliners

Bottom Line
A very rewarding stick for intermediate and advanced baseliners who swing for the fences.
