When Roger Federer, citing the "unnecessary risk" of competing in the 2016 French Open, withdrew from the competition, fans and observers soon began mulling what no one wants to think about: the idea of a post-Fed world in pro tennis. Even so, the Swiss master's record of appearing in 65 consecutive major singles draws came to an end. And a certain hashtag was birthed. #LastTimeFedererMissedASlam has done what great hashtags do: entertain, inform, delight and wax nostalgic, all at the same time. Without further ado, here are some of the best tweets from the crowd-sourced initiative to show just how truly great his mark of 65 is.

Indeed, when Federer last missed a major tournament's singles main draw, it was at the 1999 U.S. Open. Interestingly, he lost in the qualifying sub-event to compatriot Ivo Heuberger.

Action at Roland Garros began on Sunday, and while Fed won't be in the mix, his perennial rivals, Novak Djokovic (seeking an elusive RG title) and Rafael Nadal (pursuing a record 10th) could face off in the semifinal round. On the women's side, Serena Williams continues to chase Steffi Graf's Open era record 22 major singles titles. There's no shortage of storylines.
