Andy Murray still searching for US Open doubles partner

Andy Murray's looking for doubles partners for the second straight Grand Slam.

The 32-year-old still doesn't have partners lined up for the US Open, where he plans to play doubles and mixed doubles. Since returning from hip surgery, his most regular doubles partner has been Feliciano Lopez—the pair have played together at the Queen's Club, Montreal and this week in Cincinnati. Murray told the BBC that he still does not have a partner for Flushing Meadows and Lopez is committed to playing with Pablo Carreno Busta.

"And a lot of the players have partners now," said Murray. "But I'm sure we'll get someone."

Murray also hasn't said whether he has a partner for mixed doubles, having famously had problems finding one for Wimbledon. When he mentioned he had been turned down to play by some WTA players, the ensuing press attention helped him get numerous offers and eventually produced a partnership with Serena Williams.

The Scott also revealed he had not entered the singles qualifying event at the US Open, and was now questioning whether he should have. It was this week at Cincinnati that the three-time Grand Slam champion played his first comeback match in singles, but then said he would not repeat that in a couple of weeks at the US Open. The event is a more demanding best-of-five sets competition, which Murray says he is hesitant to play at this point in his comeback. But qualifying is best-of-three sets.

"I don't know why we didn't really think of it," he said. "When I woke up, I though, I want to play three-set matches. I could maybe test myself there, and if I got through qualifying that might show that I'm ready to play there."

Murray is considering taking a wildcard into the ATP event Winston-Salem instead.

A wildcard at Cincinnati, he was ousted by Richard Gasquet in the first round.
