Argentina, led by Gisela Dulko and playing at home in Buenos Aires, has won the Americas zonal Group I pool and will play for a spot in World Group II in April. Chile and Mexico will fall to the Americas Group II after tying for last place in the pool.

Japan has also won a place in the World Group II playoffs by coming out on top of the Asia/Ocenia pool in Thailand. Indonesia will move up from the Asia/Ocenia Group II to Group II, while India falls from Group I to Group II.

Belarus and Switzerland emerged from the Euro-Africa pool, with Denmark being relegated despite the services of world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki.
