The news out of Australia is that Lleyton Hewitt and his very pregnant wife, former soap opera star Bec Cartwright, have signed a million-dollar deal to give Woman’s Day magazine exclusive rights to stories about the pending baby and the Hewitts for the next year.

This got me thinking.

1) I wonder what you'd have to pony up to buy the kid, outright . . .

2) Could you get some kind of discount if you paid up front, before the kid was born, on the grounds that you don't really know what you're getting?

3) Would it be kosher to ask the happy couple what gender the baby is, and if they tell you, should that have an impact on the price?
