ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (AP)—Spain’s Rafael Nadal and American Lindsey Vonn are the winners of this year’s Laureus Sports Awards.

Nadal was honored as the sportsman of the year and Vonn the sportswoman in a ceremony Monday in Abu Dhabi. Nadal won the French Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Open to rank as the world’s No. 1 tennis player, while Vonn won two Olympic medals in Vancouver, including gold in the downhill, and her third consecutive World Cup overall title.

In the other awards, Spain’s World Cup squad won the team of the year; Italian motorcycle champion Valentino Rossi claimed the comeback of the year award; French soccer great Zinedine Zidane won the lifetime achievement award and American surfer Kelly Slater took the action sportsperson of the year.

Winners are chosen by 46 sports stars who make up the Laureus sports academy.
