Puig, Sabalenka, Kerber begin coaching shuffles following US Open

Monica Puig, Aryna Sabalenka and Angelique Kerber are all making coaching adjustments following the US Open.

Puig has brought on Belgian coach Philip Dehaes, who previously worked with Daria Kasatkina.

Puig had described it as a "slap in the face" when her former coach Kamau Murray announced his decision to rejoin Sloane Stephens just before the US Open.

The 25-year-old from Puerto Rico had begun working with Murray following the Australian Open.

Sabalenka indicated she would stop working with her coach Dmitry Tursunov following her singles defeat at the US Open, but subsequently appeared unsure if they would actually split.

"I knew it was going to happen. I was trying to do everything to make sure it wasn’t going to happen. But, it happened, and we just need a little break," she said. "I still think he’s a good guy, a good coach. We’ve had some long discussions for a little while, and made the decision that he needs to take care of some things, and I need to think of some things."

But Tursunov stayed at the event to coach her in doubles, which Sabalenka won with Elise Mertens. During the second week, she said they were still considering their relationship.

And according to German press, Angelique Kerber is now using German federation coach Dirk Dier. They will start together this week at the WTA event at Zhengzhou.

The three-time Grand Slam champion recently split with Rainer Schuttler, and has yet to win a round in her three events since then.

Kerber is No. 15 in the rankings.
