Nadal's hometown soccer team Real Mallorca, in which the Spanish world no. 1 recently became a shareholder, has been denied entry into the Europa League next season because of its financial difficulties.

Real Mallorca called the European governing body UEFA's decision "unprecedented and not understandable," indicating an appeal was planned.

Nadal made a financial investment in the club earlier this month in a bid to help it stave off bankruptcy, with debts reportedly totalling 70 million Euros.
