It was a strange 24 hours or so for Jack Sock.

On Day 1 of the French Open on Sunday, the American split four sets with Robin Haase before rain interrupted play.

The first-round match resumed on Monday, and Sock won the fifth set handily for a 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-7 (3), 6-2 victory. The marathon match lasted, over two days, three hours and 45 minutes.

"To be able to sleep on it, kind of re-evaluate, regroup and come out today might have helped me a little bit," Sock said, according to the Associated Press. "I thought he was a little bit on fire there at the end of the fourth, hitting great shots. So I was able to come out fresh today."

The 23rd seed showed some resiliency and poise after dropping two consecutive sets, but the Parisian crowd was not impressed—at least not with his behavior.

Sock screamed in Haase’s direction, which prompted fans to shower him in boos as he walked off the court.

The Nebraska native proceeded to put his finger over his mouth as he left the grounds, as if to shush the disapproving fans.

Next up for the world No. 25 is German qualifier Dustin Brown, who defeated Dudi Sela in a 6-7 (5), 6-4, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-4 thriller.

"Playing on the dirt is always a fun time for me,” Sock told the AP. “I feel very comfortable on it.”

This will be the first meeting between the two players.

The 23-year-old reached the fourth round of the French Open last year, his best-ever result at a Grand Slam.
