GOLD COAST, Australia (AP)—Wimbledon quarterfinalist Bernard Tomic is under investigation by police for allegedly misusing his high performance sports car.

Tomic, 19, has a restricted “P-plate” license due to his age, but has an exemption to drive his BMW M3 sports car to and from training and other activities directly related to his tennis. The car is fitted with an electronic speed limiter, its top speed still exceeds 250 kph (155 mph).

In a statement Tuesday, Queensland state police said they were investigating “a number of alleged traffic offenses and breaches of the exemption” by Tomic.

Tomic has denied the claims, arguing he is the victim of a vendetta by a local police officer.
