Legendary tennis journalist and historian Steve Flink, who was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I., on Saturday, expressed how grateful he was to be enshrined as a non-player.
“You don’t take it for granted if you’re in my shoes,” the Tennis Channel columnist said, “because you look at Andy [Roddick] and Kim [Clijsters] and Monique [Kalkman] and their prodigious accomplishments, and they speak for themselves. Voters look at those records and say, ‘How can we deny players of this stature going into the International Tennis Hall of Fame?’ I’m a journalist, I’m a historian, so it’s a much larger judgment call.”
