Well-known for drawing blood by repeatedly smashing his racquet against his head in a 2008 match, Mikhail Youzhny has shown better use of his frame throughout the rest of his career. The Russian has won nine ATP titles, and was ranked as high as No. 8 in the world, in Januar,y 2008 and again in October, 2010. Youzhny reached the semifinals of the U.S. Open in both 2006, beating Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals, and 2010. Youzhny is a frequent participant in the Davis Cup, and helped lead Russia to the 2002 title, coming back from two sets down to defeat Paul-Henri Mathieu in the deciding fifth rubber. In 2011, Youzhny reached semifinals at Marseille, Hamburg, Gstaad and St. Petersburg. He won swept singles and doubles titles at Zagreb in February, 2012 and won Gstaad in 2013. Youzhny defeated top seed and defending champion David Ferrer to win the 10th title of his career in Valencia in October, 2013.
