An agile athlete capable of playing all-court tennis, Yaroslava Shvedova partnered Vania King to claim successive Grand Slam doubles titles at the 2010 Wimbledon and U.S. Open. The pair reached the 2011 U.S. Open final. In 2010, Shvedova became the first Kazakh—male or female—to reach a Grand Slam quarterfinal as she made the last eight at Roland Garros. She repeated the feat at the 2012 Roland Garros. Shvedova made history at the 2012 Wimbledon when she beat Sara Errani, 6-0, 6-4, become the first woman in the Open Era to post a Golden Set. Slava's mother, Nurziya, was a professional runner and world champion in the 100 km marathon.
