A hard-hitting baseliner, Denis Istomin has been ranked as high as No. 33. He's the first player from Uzbekistan to crack the ATP's Top 50. Istomin's career was nearly over before it began. He suffered a leg injury in a car crash traveling to a Tashkent tournament in April 2001, underwent surgery, was hospitalized for three months and did not touch a tennis racquet for two years. In June 2011, Istomin graduated from University of Physical Culture & Sport in Uzbekistan with a degree in physical culture. In 2015, he became the first player from Uzbekistan to win an ATP title when he beat Querrey in the final of Nottingham 7-6(1), 7-6(6).
