SAO PAULO -- Fifth-seeded Thomaz Bellucci beat Brazilian countryman Guilherme Clezar 7-6 (4), 5-7, 7-6 (1) on Tuesday in the first round of the Brazil Open.

In other first-round matches in the clay-court event, Argentina's Guido Pella topped sixth-seeded Fabio Fognini of Italy 7-6 (6), 1-6, 6-1, and eighth-seeded Albert Ramos beat Spanish compatriot Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-3, 7-5.
