Del Potro defeats Gulbis to reach Rotterdam quarterfinals

ROTTERDAM, Netherlands (AP)—Juan Martin del Potro had 12 aces in a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win over Ernests Gulbis of Latvia, reaching his first quarterfinals of the year at the ABN AMRO tournament on Thursday.

The second-seeded Argentine will face Jarkko Nieminen, who beat Matthias Bachinger of Germany 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 at the Ahoy arena.

Marcos Baghdatis beat fourth-seeded Richard Gasquet 6-4, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals. The unseeded Cypriot saved three break points and broke Gasquet once to take the first set.

He'll play Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria.
