British teenager Laura Robson reacts to her upset of five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams in Rome. Robson lost to Serena Williams in the second round.

“I can remember seeing her play at Wimbledon when I was about 10 and I was kind of blown away with the speed that she hit the ball, and today when she hit it in the center of the racquet it was basically point over, so I just had to take my chance,” Robson told reporters. “I was pretty pumped. I can remember saying when I was 14 that I wanted to play Venus and I got my wish…I can remember I said I would take her down on a BBC interview after the [Wimbledon] junior final and my mum sent it to me the other day to remind me about it as if I could have forgotten saying something so stupid. Yes, it was good to play her.”

Robson also explained why she recently split with coach Zeljko Krajan.

“We didn’t have enough in common and I think you have to be able to get on with your coach on and off the court, and this was something that we just didn’t have, and we come from two very different backgrounds and so his way of working was different from mine and it was fine and mutual…We just didn’t click and he is free to say whatever and I understand.”

Krajan told the London Times last week that, “The mentality is different. I did expect more from Laura but when it doesn’t go that way any more it is not the time to stay. She was not mature enough to do this kind of work enough times for me. She needed to be more serious and to commit herself more. She had to do this every day, not only in the big tournaments.”

Robson will work with adidas Player Development coaches through Wimbledon.
