After retiring from his Roland Garros first-rounder due to a small tear in his right leg muscle, Bernard Tomic opens his press conference with a statement about his father John, who has been accused of assaulting his hitting partner in Madrid and has been banned from the tour. John Tomic wasn’t allowed on site at the French Open.

“He's here right now in Paris, so, he’s still working with me, he's still my dad, he's still my coach and I love him a lot,” Tomic said. “Involving the incidents that happened, I don't want to talk about it a lot—or at all—I should say. And it's a very difficult thing for me, you know, to put my words into that. If you can respect all I have to say about this."

Tomic said that it was a strange not to have his father court side.

“The last two weeks, I was training well, playing well, didn't think a lot about it, was not worried," Tomic said. "To be honest, I didn't think about it the last week. It's a little bit different. My dad's still my coach, and he'll always be, because, I grew up with him and he knows me better than everyone else.

“I might put someone else on board that can help my dad and them two people, negotiate. Not a coach but someone just to help me a little bit. I haven't made a decision yet who. It might be a few weeks away, maybe after the grass [season], but I'll see. I'd like to get someone in before the grass that can help me and my dad."

Tomic is hopeful that his leg will improve quickly enough so he can play the tournament at Queen's Club, which begins the week after Roland Garros.
