Chardy sweeps Isner in Valencia

VALENCIA, Spain (AP)—American John Isner lost to Jeremy Chardy of France 7-6 (7), 6-3 Thursday at the Valencia Open.

Top-seeded David Ferrer reached the quarterfinals by easing past Julien Benneteau of France 6-2, 6-1. Benneteau squandered four break points against the Spaniard.

Other winners included fifth-seeded Jerzy Janowicz of Poland, who will face Ferrer.
