Serena Williams says she considered asking Roger Federer to play mixed doubles with her at the Australian Open, but decided against it because she'll be playing doubles with her sister Venus, and doesn't want to play three events.

“Honestly I was going to ask Roger because I saw he was playing doubles [in Brisbane],” she said. “Venus was like, 'Let's play doubles,' and I was like, 'Okay.'

"I can't play three events. I still rather play doubles than mixed, even though I don't have the mixed title. I still would much rather play doubles than mixed. It's my sister, it's fun, and it’s great. I love playing doubles. I'm pretty good at it."

Williams added that she would like to win the career Grand Slam in mixed doubles some day, and may end up asking Federer at another time in the future.

“I don't know,” she said. “Have to figure out the best way to win Australia and the French Open in mixed,” she said. “I've got to figure out how to do it.”
